Community in Mission

What’s in the soil our communities and institutions is what will grow. If there’s poison in our soil, there’s poison in our fruit. We desire the fruit of Shalom, of peace. To cultivate that fruit, it starts in our soil.

Our partners at StreetPsalms refer to structures and organizations that help create a world of Shalom as "communities in mission". They are characterized by having "a large enough mission to call forth community, and a strong enough community to sustain the mission".

Our Community in Mission Tool offers faith communities a chance to begin building a toolbox for long-term contextual discernment.
This tool is a soil sample, a moment in time view of an group's ecosystem that highlights areas for attention and focus at this stage in the life of a community. This has been created in partnership with StreetPsalms, the Southwestern WA Synod of the ELCA, and the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church.
